What are cookies?

Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. They help websites remember preferences, improve performance, and understand how visitors use the site.

How we use cookies

We use cookies for the following purposes:

Essential cookies: required for basic website functionality, such as remembering your cookie consent choice and your region
Analytics and advertising: managed through Google Tag Manager. Tags inside that container (for example Google Analytics or advertising pixels) are managed in Tag Manager, not in the website code. We use Google Consent Mode to tell those tags what you have agreed to.
Security cookies: used by services such as Google reCAPTCHA to protect our contact form from spam

Defaults by region

Which optional cookies are on by default depends on the country you visit from, which we detect from your IP address:

South Africa: analytics is on by default under our legitimate interest in understanding how the website is used (POPIA section 11(1)(f)). Advertising cookies stay off unless you choose Accept all. Choose Essential only to switch analytics off.
European Union, EEA, United Kingdom and Switzerland: analytics and advertising cookies stay off, and Google Tag Manager does not load, until you choose Accept all.
United States and other countries: analytics and advertising cookies are on by default. Choose Essential only, or use the Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information link, to opt out. We honour the Global Privacy Control signal by switching advertising cookies off.

Cookies we may use

sitcher-cookie-consent, stores whether you accepted cookies (local storage)
sitcher-country, your country code from your IP address, used to apply the right defaults for your region (1 day)
Google Tag Manager, loads according to the regional rules above. Cookies set by tags in the container (for example _ga, _gid, or advertising cookies) depend on what is configured in Tag Manager and on your consent choice
Vercel Analytics, anonymous, cookieless page views and performance data in production. It does not set cookies or identify you
reCAPTCHA cookies, may be set by Google when you use the contact form

Managing cookies

You can choose Essential only or Accept all below at any time. Where we show a cookie banner, you can also choose there. Choosing Essential only also opts you out of any sale or sharing of personal information for advertising, as described in US state privacy laws. You can also control or delete cookies through your browser settings. Please note that disabling essential cookies may affect some website features.

Third-party cookies

Some cookies are placed by third-party services we use, such as Google Tag Manager (and the tags configured in that container), Google reCAPTCHA, and analytics providers. These third parties have their own privacy and cookie policies.
